Common Beetles and Roaches We Eliminate for You

While most beetles are harmless to humans, they are a nuisance pest, that destroy the comfort of being in your own home. Some, like cockroaches, are capable of spreading human disease, which can pose health risks to you and your family. Others, like the Asian Beetle, can cause allergies, asthma, or eye irritations.

Because beetles and roaches find many ways to enter your home, the most effective solution is a Pest Control Strategy that will solve the current infestation and prevent others from happening. Below you will find more information on the beetles and roaches we eliminate for you, as well as control treatments that suit your needs.

Signs of a Beetle and/or Roach Infestation

There are many bugs, all over the world, more than we could possibly count. But luckily there are far less in the Northern California area that we can take care of for you. Our Diamond Certified Beetle and Roach Control Experts have been trained to locate, identify, and eliminate these pests invading your home.

The most common beetles and roaches that we eliminate for you, are:

Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetles are often confused with bed bugs, though there are many ways in which they resemble, there are distinctions between them. The Carpet Beetle is small about 3mm in length, flat as well as spotted yellow, white and black. The distinction is that they don’t feed on blood like bed bugs do, instead they feast on natural fibers, hence their name, carpet beetle. Though these pests are not dangerous, the damage they do can be costly.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are reddish-brown to black in color and typically 1-1 ½ inches long (some can grow to be up to 40mm). Cockroaches will never stop trying to get into your home for food, water and shelter. And since they’re nocturnal creature’s adept at hiding, as well as quick to reproduce, an infestation can get out of hand before you ever realize they’re in your home. Cockroaches are capable of spreading human disease and triggering allergies. These are various species of cockroaches, here are some of the more common types to be aware of:

  1. American Cockroaches – Adult American Cockroaches can be slightly more than 50 mm long. They are typically reddish brown or mahogany colored. What is distinctive of these types of roaches, is that both female and males can fly, with their wings developing when they become adults. American cockroaches live outdoors normally but enter homes in search of water and food. When they enter a home, they often go to bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements.
  2. Brown-Banded Cockroach – The Brown-Banded Cockroach is one of the smallest, reaching 11 to 14.5 mm in length. These roaches receive their name from the light brown or tan bands that are present on the wings of the adult and across the body of the nymphs. These types of cockroaches need warm temperatures to survive, which is why they enter homes looking for shelter.
  3. German Cockroach – The German Cockroach grows to a length of 13-16 mm, that are easily recognized by their light brown or tan coloration with two black horizontal stripes located on the pronotum immediately behind the head. These roaches have wings, but they rarely fly, preferring to run. They are well-known indoor cockroaches with a distribution that is world-wide.
  4. Oriental Cockroach – Oriental Cockroaches are distinctive in their appearance. A male is 25 mm long with wings, while females are 32 mm long with no wings. They both share the same shiny black to dark reddish-brown color. These cockroaches prefer homes with plenty of damp, dark, and sheltered areas to breed and develop.

Stink Bugs

Stink bugs have an uncanny ability to slip inside your home through torn screens and door cracks thanks to their flat, 12-17 mm, mottled brown color, body shape. When the weather turns cold, these pests overwinter indoors in hopes of surviving until the spring. Stink bugs are more of a nuisance pest than a threat to people. Stink bugs emit an odor that gets stronger when the bugs are smashed, hence their name.

Water Bugs

Water Bugs are constantly mistaken for cockroaches, but they are quite different. Unlike cockroaches, which eat just about anything and everything, water bugs prey on insects, small fish, and other small animals with their proboscis, or biting mouthpiece. It is a very painful bite, but not dangerous to humans and most water bugs will only bite if provoked or if their habitat is disturbed. They are larger than a cockroach, with a flat-oval shape, that prefer to spend time on water.

Asian Beetles

The Asian Beetle, because of their destruction of plant life and their aggressive tendency to bite, are commonly considered a nuisance pest. Asian beetles do not pose a serious threat to your health or home, but they do leave a yellow, foul-smelling liquid, when they feel threatened or scared. Asian Lady Beetles will attempt to enter your home when they look for overwintering shelters and they tend to be in larger groups.

There are a variety of signs that will let you know if you are experiencing a possible beetle or cockroach infestation. Common signs are detailed below:

  • Beetles often gathered around window openings are an indication of an infestation, as many types of beetles gather together looking for warmth.
  • Another sign can be the fecal pellets from all these types of beetles, usually when they are concentrated in particular areas.
  • Some, for instance cockroaches, are nocturnal insects, so a cockroach seen during the day can be a possible sign of an infestation.

Treatments for Beetle and Roach Control

Though not all beetles and roaches face a threat to your family, they can still cause pest problems within your home. At All N One Pest Eliminators, our beetle and roach control treatment consist of both chemical treatments and natural control options. We are here to offer the best treatment plan that fits your needs.

Chemical Treatments

  • Aerosol concentrate sprays and insecticide “dust” are both common and effective treatments for larger infestations. The odorless dust is mixed with water and then applied in and around the infestation area. The dust treatment provides a waterproof solution which is sprayed into cracks and voids, beetles and roaches can use to gain entry to your home. The treatment is highly effective, fast acting and can provide protection for a significant period.
  • Boric acid and other residuals might be applied to cracks and crevices, any crawl space that pests could get through. It is important to be aware that boric acid kills bugs that ingest it which is why it is commonly used as roach bait as they are known to eat almost everything. Allow pest control professionals to address the infestation since they are trained in proper application techniques and are equipped to efficiently deal with the pests.

Natural Control and Prevention

While chemical treatments are an effective way to control and eliminate large infestations, we believe ecofriendly organic and natural control and prevention options should be used when available. Effective property management and modifying the environment where roaches and beetles live can be an effective preventative option. Here are some preventive tips:

Reducing the Amount of Artificial Light Outside

Many pests are attracted to artificial light sources. Many pests, such as the ones described above look for a light for warmth during the colder months. Using motion detection light that only operates when needed is a great option to reduce artificial outdoor light.

Sealing Cracks and Gaps

Beetles, roaches and other pests can enter your home through the tiniest cracks and gaps around doorways, windows, or imperfections around the foundation. Exclusion if the first step in keeping these pests out of a structure. New seals, screens, and fillers can be used to seal these entry points.

Keep Roof Overhangs and Base of Your House Clean

Debris, weeds and dirt around the base of you home and roof overhangs provide insects a perfect habitat to live. A shop-vac can be an effective tool for reaching hard to reach areas when cleaning. A HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum can be used to deal with pests already in your home, while being careful to seal the bag and disposing of it outside of your home.

Fixing Leaky Pipes

Many pests are attracted to water, such as the water bug, that fixing leaky pipes and faucets will help get rid of some of these pests, as well as their water source.

Heat Treatment

Specialized heat treatment, which includes an Entotherm heat treatment, that effectively eliminates all life stages of an insect infesting fabric items. The portable design of a Heat Pod allows for the use in your home or business, to ensure minimum disruption.
